A British skier between life and death
A British skier who has fallen down a steep slope in Alpe d'Huez, has been transported to hospital and is said to to be in a critical condition.
The man had just arrived at the top of the resort by cable car when he was spotted trying to recover a dropped object, loose control and hurtle down a steep slope beneath the lift. A member of the ski patrol observed the incident from a distance and gave the alert for an immediate rescue.
At present we do not have any further information on the condition or the identity of the man.
Elsewhere in resort two young skiers ventured into an off-piste area above the Alpe-d'Huez airfield and soon realised they were lost. They tried to retrace their steps by skiing back in the opposite direction, but quickly found themselves stuck above a rocky cliff. They decided to take their skis off to hike back out however one of the skiers lost his footing, slid and took out his friend - they fell 120 metres over rocky terrain.
The rescue helicopter came to their aid and fortunately found them in good health apart from a broken collarbone.
