Don't forget it's your right to vote!
Life in the mountains isn't always just about skiing and a good dose of apres-skiing; for those whose carve (excuse the pun!) out a life in the Alpes and have become resident in France, it's also important to have a say in how the commune you live in is run.
Next Spring sees the Elections Municipales across France and ALL residents have the right to vote, including those who are ‘foreign' and don't have the right to a French passport. Whilst we can't vote in National elections (shame) it's still important that you exercise your right to vote locally.
To activate your right to vote, you need to pop in to your local Mairie before the 30th December 2007 with your passport and proof of residence, such as an EDF bill or a tax bill and register. Of course, you can't be signed up on the electoral roll in the UK at the same time as you can only vote in one place!
Thanks to David Kartal who is standing for election in the Chamonix town elections for the information.
