Link between Alpe d'Huez & Les Deux Alpes Announced
New date set for the link to be open for the 2018 season
It's been talked about, planned, announced, set back.. but we've heard from the Ski show in London that the link between Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes is finally set to go ahead...
The much anticipated link is going ahead and is planned to be open for the 2018 season.
There will be a total of 18 pylons and the transit time is anticipated to take around 17 minutes. In Alpe d'Huez the link will begin at the top of Signal de l'homme (in the Auris sector) and arrive in Deux Alpes in Le Cret. Contrary to popular rumours the lift won't be stopping in Freney as this will add to the transit time.
If the piste measurements for each resort are to be believed, that makes for one enormous ski area of around 474km of linked pistes. Here's how the top 5 biggest ski areas will look:
- +/- 600kms - 3 Valleys - Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens, La Tania
- +/- 474kms - The newly combined Deux Alpes / Alpe d'Huez (suggestions for names anyone - hopefully something more imaginitive that the 2 Valleys?!?)
- +/- 412kms - 4 Valleys - Verbier, Bruson, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Yevsonnaz & Thyon
- +/- 400kms - Portes du Soleil - Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets, Champery, Chatel, Abondance, Montriond & St Jean d'Aulps
- +/- 300kms - Espace Killy - Tignes & Val d'Isere
You've just got to wait until 2018 for it to happen...
