The lift system is renowned for being one of the best in the Alps meaning that long lift queues rarely pose a problem. The 84 lifts that make up the network can be accessed from 7 different parts of the resort, meaning that you never have to face a long trek home at the end of a hard day up the mountain!

The 84 lifts of the Alpe d'Huez ski domain consist of 6 cable cars, 9 gondolas (bubbles), 23 chair lifts, 41 drag lifts (many of these are short drag lifts on the nursery slopes) and 3 travelators (magic carpets), as well as the 'lobster pot'!

The lift system operates during both the winter and summer seasons, giving access to a wide range of mountain activities. Take a look at our Activities Guide for more inspiration.

*Pedestrians can use all cable cars and gondolas to access winter walking trails and mountain restaurants.

**It is not always necessary to use the lifts, as there are many take-off points at resort level. Please read Alpe d'Huez for Paragliding for more information.

***It is not recommended to expose babies to sudden changes in altitude or temperature - if lift staff consider your child too young to travel on certain lifts they reserve the right to refuse you entry. The last section of the DMC lift climbs to an altitude of 3330m, you are advised not to take children under 3 years old on this lift.

NB Alpe d'Huez is a high altitude resort and the lifts can take you as high as 3330m. Please consult your doctor before arriving in resort if you have heart problems or any other medical problem that may be exacerbated by a change in altitude.
